Kyocera Industrial Ceramics Corporation celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday for an expansion of its Vancouver-based manufacturing operations.

The $10 million project will expand Kyocera’s existing facility by 45 percent, to 58,000 square feet.

The company said the expansion could create up to 30 new jobs over the next few years. The facility currently employs 125 workers on three shifts.

Kyocera companies have manufactured in Vancouver since 1986. The current facility is located at 5713 N.E. Fourth Plain Blvd.

Kyocera’s ceramics are used in high-performance, high-reliability applications, with roles in the semiconductor, aerospace, automotive, medical and renewable energy markets.

The facility expansion is expected to be complete before the end of the year.
