Up Close With Carrie Schulstad

Current job: Executive director of the Downtown Camas Association

Proudest professional moment: Receiving the 2015 Excellence on Main Street Award for Camas First Fridays alongside my dedicated board members. It was our 10th anniversary of these monthly events and I was reminiscing like crazy!

First job: I worked in the lab office at OHSU answering phones and giving out lab results. This was before everyone had their own computers! Was that really in my lifetime?

Fun fact: I was an RN for 15 years before I opened The Uncommon Gift, a gift and home décor boutique, in Downtown Camas in 2004. I fell in love with community development through owning and operating a shop in our downtown district.

Favorite spot on a Saturday night: Downtown Camas! Feast at 316 for dinner, Liberty Theatre for a great film, and Birch Street Uptown Lounge for a Ghost Captain and live music.

Favorite movie: I have a few! “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Sound of Music,” and I have to say I’m still a pretty big “Star Wars” fan. I saw the first one when I was ten 10 times!

Music of choice: Acoustic guitar

Favorite place to eat: For coffee: Caffe Piccolo. For treats: Cake Happy. For dinner: Miss Nola’s Café or Feast or Mesa – hard to choose!

Motto/Inspirational quote: “Let’s Talk Possibilities!” I also like Amos Lee’s phrase, “Nothing is more powerful than beauty in a wicked world.” Kindness makes the difference.
