Paying it Forward: Jeff Taylor

Name: Jeff Taylor

Current employer or place of business: KeyBank, relationship manager, business banking

Organization(s) I volunteer with: Board position at the YWCA of Clark County; Evergreen High School (EHS) Band Boosters

How I got involved: KeyBank has had a regular board presence at the YWCA for years. I decided it was time for me to take an active role in the organization. It was easy for me to support its mission, which is to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. Regarding my support of EHS Band Boosters, I have two children in high school that participate in the marching band program. The marching band program is one of the top programs in the Northwest and participated in the first inauguration of President Obama. I am assisting the program by helping set up props for their programs and fundraiser efforts.

Why I give back: I give back because I am grateful for the life I have and believe it’s important to be an advocate for the less fortunate as well as the people I love.

Proudest moment as a volunteer: The EHS band has a signature event annually called the McKenzie Classic. It is a general fundraiser for the EHS Band Booster program and hosts some of the region’s top bands. We have had trouble historically turning a profit for this event, but this year we are on target to do so, which is critical in our efforts to keep the program intact for our children.

What local challenge or issue are you most passionate about? I am concerned about chemical dependency and mental health issues for Clark County adolescents. I am currently looking into ways I can get involved to help assist with this problem.

Just for fun: What are your hidden talents? I believe I have unusually good reflexes. Around our home we call it “Taylor reflexes.” If I drop something from the refrigerator, it rarely hits the floor.

“Paying it Forward: Volunteer Businessperson of the Week” is sponsored by Pacific Continental Bank.
