Paying it Forward: Pat Jollota

Volunteer of the Week

Pat Jollota

Name: Pat Jollota

Current employer or place of business: Thankfully retired but still writing books and doing history talks.

Organization(s) I volunteer with: Children’s Justice Center; Elder Justice Center; Fort Vancouver National Trust; history talks, anything that comes along.

How I got involved: I can’t say no!

Why I give back: It feels good in my soul… it’s really quite selfish.

Proudest moment as a volunteer: I have two: When the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center (CJC) were able to stop a proposed zeroing out of funding for Children’s Advocacy Centers. The second was going to Washington D.C. on behalf of the CJC to accept an award for forming the Friends of the CJC from the National Children’s Advocacy group.

What local challenge or issue are you most passionate about? Protecting the vulnerable – kids, elderly, animals and developmentally disabled. It is the duty of those of us who are blessed with good health and stability to help those who aren’t. Secondly, preserving the unique history of Clark County and getting others as excited about it as I am.

Just for fun: What are your hidden talents? I once sang for a living when I lived in England and legally couldn’t earn a paycheck. Unfortunately, health matters intervened and I can’t do that anymore. I miss it terribly.
