New spaces: ilani under construction

If you’ve driven past the La Center exit on Interstate 5 any time during the past few months, you likely saw it – a massive 368,000-square-foot building rising just to the west of the highway.

That building – now between 40 and 50 percent complete – is ilani, a casino resort developed by Salishan-Mohegan LLC in collaboration with the Cowlitz Indian Tribe.

On Wednesday, the Vancouver Business Journal held its annual Top Project’s event at the ilani construction site, and with it came rare access to the project.

Take a look at the photo slideshow below for an up close look at the building’s exterior on all sides.

Here are a few facts about the project:

  • The design of the resort is meant to pay tribute to the heritage of the Cowlitz Tribe (see wave-like building features that represent the local rivers)
  • The casino’s 100,000-square-foot gaming floor will feature the latest and most popular games including 2,500 slot machines, 75 table games, a high-limit gaming room and VIP Lounge
  • Ilani will feature event space with seating for up to 2,500 guests
  • The resort will feature 15 different restaurants, bars and retail shops
  • The project will bring more than 1,000 new jobs to Southwest Washington
  • 150 construction workers are currently working on the project and a total of 250 construction jobs are to be provided
