Residents and businesses in four Oregon counties have a new choice when it comes to their personal and commercial banking needs: Vancouver’s Columbia Credit Union (CCU).

On Tuesday, CCU announced the expansion of its service area to include Clackamas, Marion, Multnomah and Washington counties.

The organization’s board of directors voted to approve the expansion back in February and regulators in Oregon and Washington approved it earlier this month.

Steve Kenny, Columbia Credit Union president and CEO, called the expansion a “natural progression.”

“This is exciting news that will allow us to be everywhere our members are and drive diversified growth for our credit union in the years ahead,” said Kenny. “We’ve been making life better here in Clark County, Washington since 1952. Now, we have the opportunity to do the same for our neighbors in the Portland metro area.”

Columbia Credit Union currently operates 12 branches throughout Clark County, and is currently evaluating possible locations for a loan servicing center in the new four-county Portland community.  Additional branches and service centers are also under consideration.

Colleen Boccia, CCU’s senior vice president of marketing and chief deposit officer, said that the expansion immediately helps to better serve 5,000 households in Oregon. Some of those families, she explained, may have become members while living in Washington but later chose to move to Oregon.

“This just shows that we are truly a regional economy,” she said. “People are living and working on both sides of the river.”

Ultimately, Kenny said that CCU’s service area expansion is a win for the consumer.

“There are some great credit unions in the Vancouver-Portland region – including Columbia Credit Union,” added Kenny. “Having more choices is always good for consumers – and we’re always a good choice.”
