Port of Camas-Washougal gets $2.9 mill to build 50,000-square-foot building

The U.S. Department of Commerce announced this week that it is awarding a $2.9 million grant to the Port of Camas-Washougal in Washougal to build a facility that can house the expanded operations of local manufacturing firms.

The grant, awarded through the department’s Economic Development Administration, will help construct a 50,000-square-foot prefabricated metal building that will be divided into at least 10 bays. The facility will include utilities and communication connections, plus drainage, parking and landscaping.

“Supporting the efforts of U.S. manufacturers to innovate, grow, and compete is a key focus of the Economic Development Administration,” said U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker. “This EDA grant will boost employment opportunities for the region’s workforce by providing new industrial space that allows for local firms to expand their operations.”

The port estimates the project will create 160 new jobs.
