Commissioner named diversity champion

Clark County Commissioner Mark Boldt received a Diversity Champion Award at the 15th annual Diversity Development Conference of Clark, Multnomah and Clackamas counties with the city of Portland and the Portland Development Commission. He was one of seven award winners. Since 2006, Boldt has taken a leadership role in Clark County’s diversity initiative, serving on its diversity advisory committee and helping to adopt the county’s diversity policy in 2006. Boldt helped name July Diversity Awareness Month in 2007 and supported the county’s anti-hate crime and anti-discrimination resolution in 2008. He was elected this year to a second term as commissioner and served five terms as a Representative of Washington’s 17th Legislative District.

 

Tommy Owens

Restaurateur named local hero

Tommy Owens, owner of Vancouver-based Tommy O’s Aloha Café, was named a local hero at Bank of America’s Neighborhood Excellence Initiative Awards. He received a $5,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, which he will give to Vancouver-based Children’s Center. Owens volunteers for that nonprofit and others, including Soroptimist International of Southwest Washington, Vancouver Parks and Recreation, Clark County Historical Society and Daybreak in Vancouver.

Gilda Ciraulo

Westby Assoc. adds project manager

Gilda Ciraulo has joined Westby Assoc. Inc. as a project manager for the Vancouver-based strategic plannering and fundraising consultants. Ciraulo managed Washington Rep. Jim Jacks’ 2008 legislative campaign, worked 11 years as a customer service representative for Alaska Airlines in Portland and owned Portland-based Heart and Soul Events for five years. She was the Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce’s citizen of the year in 2008 with her husband, Battle Ground Mayor Mike Ciraulo. Ciraulo is outgoing president of the Lewis River Rotary Club and serves on the boards of the North Clark County Food Bank and Vancouver-based Loaves and Fishes Centers.

Nancy Baker

WIA Foundation honors port commissioner

Nancy Baker received the Vancouver-based Women in Action Foundation’s Athena Award Oct. 28. Baker is a Port of Vancouver commissioner and led the port through a period when its annual operating budget doubled to $140 million and gross revenue exceeded $800 million. Baker was nominated by Bonnie Cross of Vancouver-based HDJ Design Group.
