Jack Burkman

Gregoire appoints Clark trustee

Jack Burkman was appointed by Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire to the Clark College board of trustees.

Burkman worked for nearly 28 years at California-based Hewlett-Packard, including 21 years in Vancouver, managing new consumer inkjet product development. He retired from HP in 2005 and became the Southwest region planning manager for the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Burkman served on the Vancouver City Council and the Clark County Planning Commission and has volunteered with C-TRAN and the Southwest Washington Clean Air Agency. He is on the Fort Vancouver Regional Library board of trustees and the YWCA Clark County board of directors and is a certified professional coach with Antioch University.

Burkman has a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Montana State University.

 

Carrie Beveridge, Matt Shanahan

GRI gains geologist, promotes engineer

Carrie Beveridge was hired as a staff geologist at the new Vancouver branch of Beaverton-based Geotechnical Resources Inc. She has worked for five years as a consultant in engineering, environmental geology and hydrogeology. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geological science from the University of Texas at Austin. Matt Shanahan was promoted from GRI’s senior engineer to manager of the Vancouver branch. He has worked for GRI since 1994 and has a master’s degree in geotechnical civil engineering from the University of Idaho and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Portland State University.

 


Tom Mears

YMCA honors health commitment

Tom Mears received the annual Spirit of Health Award at the YMCA Healthy Communities luncheon Oct. 22. Mears is chairman of Vancouver-based The Holland Inc., which owns Burgerville. He was recognized for Burgerville’s industry-leading employee health care benefits and commitment to sustainable business practices. Mears also was honored for his leadership in Clark County-based Community Choices, a nonprofit promoting community health.

 


Shawn Elpel

Duggan, Schlotfeldt & Welch adds attorney

Attorney Shawn A. Elpel has joined the downtown Vancouver firm of Duggan, Schlotfeldt and Welch. Elpel provides counsel in real estate law and transactions, title insurance and construction law. He was vice president and underwriting counsel in Seattle for Virginia-based LandAmerica Commercial Services. He has directed and assisted in legal training programs and taught classes in real estate, escrow and title insurance law. Elpel is a graduate of the Gonzaga University School of Law.

 


Michael W. Minnick

Financial adviser marks 25th year

Michael W. Minnick marked his 25th year in Vancouver with Wisconsin-based Northwestern Mutual Financial Network. He has been a financial adviser for the firm since 1983 and holds five designations in his field. Minnick volunteers with Kiwanis International and the planned giving committees for the Vancouver National Historic Reserve Trust and the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington, receiving its Friend of the Foundation award this year. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Eastern Illinois University.

 


Joel Dombecki

Mint Tea gains second chef

Chef Joel Dombecki joined the staff of Vancouver-based Mint Tea. He has worked with Portland-based The Voodoo Lounge, The Awahnee Hotel at Yosemite National Park and Song of the Morning, a Vanderbilt, Mich.-based yoga retreat center that specializes in vegetarian and vegan meals.

 


Cirith Anderson-Sebree

BOCC names new vice president

Cirith Anderson-Sebree was promoted to vice president and risk and compliance manager in the finance department of Bank of Clark County. She was previously assistant vice president and project analyst for finance. Anderson-Sebree has worked for BOCC since October 2006, and her background includes eight years in the automotive finance industry. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Willamette University with dual majors in Russian and international studies. Anderson-Sebree is a member of the VBJ’s 2008 Accomplished and Under 40 class.

 

Pherak Hay, Chris Sherby

MacKay & Sposito staff earn accreditation

Pherak Hay and Chris Sherby of Vancouver-based MacKay and Sposito passed exams for professional accreditation. Kahlsdorf passed a professional engineering exam and has been with the firm for three years. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from New Mexico State University and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and Engineers without Borders. Sherby passed a professional land surveyor exam and has worked with the firm since 1998. He is an instructor with Clark College’s Certified Survey Technician program and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in geomatics from the Oregon Institute of Technology.

 

Jon Reali

Rylander & Assoc. gains patent attorney

Jon Reali has joined the Vancouver-based intellectual property law firm of Rylander and Assoc. Reali’s background includes work with domestic and international high-tech patent applications. He was one of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry’s Science Heroes in Action in 2004 and is on the Clark County Sheriff’s advisory board. He holds a juris doctorate and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Notre Dame and a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Princeton University.
