Up Close With Danielle Kilian

Danielle Kilian

Current job: Event coordinator at the Building Industry Association of Clark County

Proudest professional moment: Being a part of growing the events at the BIA and seeing the success of the home shows that I have helped produce. These include the NW Natural Parade of Homes, Columbia Credit Union Remodeled Homes Tour, and our newest addition, the New Homes Tour. I love getting to know our local builders, remodelers and all our other members of the association that I get to work with.

First job: Paid job – American Fries (and USA Subs) at the Vancouver Mall. Slinging fries, burgers and milkshakes for all the hungry mall goers! I started working there my sophomore year to pay for my trip to Europe between my junior and senior year of high school, and continued into college. My first volunteer job was a junior volunteer in the Family Birth Center at Southwest Washington Medical Center. I volunteered in that position from freshman year until I graduated from high school.

Fun fact: Every Tuesday night, you can find me at Sunset Elementary as a part of Pack 306, my son’s Cub Scout pack. My husband and I were recruited to be leaders when our son was in 1st grade, as a Tiger, and we were promised it was just an hour a week. I think anyone who has ever been involved with scouting will know we were slightly misled on the time commitment! I now head up our popcorn and candy sales for our pack, as well as help my husband David with our den of six boys, who are now going into their WebeloS 1 year!

Favorite spot on a Saturday night: Anywhere with my husband David and son Gregory. We love to go out to dinner, and mostly just spend time together being a family. With two working parents and a busy kid life, just having some down time to relax is the best.

Favorite movie: I don’t really have a favorite, but I guess I would have to say comedies as a general type. I honestly don’t tend to give myself a few hours to sit down and watch a movie.

Music of choice: Country all the way! I have been known to enjoy other types, but give me a good playlist of country and that helps me get moving.

Favorite place to eat: Jerusalem Café – My friend introduced me to it when we first moved back to Vancouver, and it has become a staple in our life!

Motto/Inspirational quote: “Dream it and achieve it!” I believe if I put my mind to something, I can make it happen. I believe this was best put in motion when my girlfriends and I decided running a half-marathon together was a great idea! Crossing the finish line this quote came to mind.
