Officials at the Port of Vancouver say they’ve outgrown their headquarters and are eyeing a move to Terminal 1 – the port-owned waterfront property currently under development along Columbia St.

According to port CEO Todd Coleman, the port would like to be the anchor tenant in a new 85,000-square-foot office building at Terminal 1. The port would occupy approximately 25,000 square feet of space on one or two floors.

On Tuesday, the port’s Board of Commissioners directed staff to begin evaluating the waterfront site as a future home.

The port’s current headquarters consists of four separate buildings. The main building is located at 3103 NW Lower River Road.

“We’re excited about the opportunities,” said Coleman. “That waterfront site is going to be fantastic. We want to be the tenant that anchors the first office building at Terminal 1, enabling other companies to locate there and attracting more employers and talent to Vancouver.”

In a press release, the port said it hopes to construct a modern facility that consolidates staff, facilitates better communication and teamwork, and improves connectivity with the community.

Site evaluations are expected to be complete by this fall. Port staff will examine other locations as well, including Centennial Industrial Park and port-owned property along Northwest Lower River Road.
