Vancouver’s first ever Digital Technology Expo and Luncheon is happening today (Thursday) at the Vancouver Hilton, bringing together community partners, leaders in academia, elected officials and business owners.

The free event, presented by Comcast Business, will consist of several parts: A luncheon from 12 to 1:30 p.m. (required pre-registration); a multi-zone technology expo directed at business application; two demonstration stages; and a happy hour, scheduled from 3 to 4 p.m. (21 and over).

Additionally, more than 500 local high school computer science students from Vancouver, Evergreen and Camas school districts will attend a morning event with a preview of what’s happening within the technology world.

“Our motto is to ‘keep it local,’ which is why it is so important to be part of this exciting Digital Technology Expo that is happening here in Vancouver for the first time,” said Ed Frankel, chairman of CheQitout, a featured exhibitor at the event. “Connecting small businesses with local vendors and suppliers makes sense for the whole community. Keeping the local economy expanding and growing is always important.”

Kevin Getch, owner of Webfor, a digital marketing agency (and event sponsor), agreed that this is going to be a big event for the city of Vancouver.

“Downtown Vancouver has a goal in mind to become a well-known location for the technology industry,” he said. “With the waterfront development happenings and more and more business growth we are starting to see past efforts coming together. This is going to put Vancouver on the map and there is already talk of this becoming an annual event.”

Getch said he encourages people to come out and see what is happening to technology first-hand as there will be live demonstrations by many of the vendors and sponsors.

The Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, the city’s Innovation Partnership Zone (IPZ) in Digital Technology, the Columbia River Economic Development Council and WSU Vancouver’s Creative Media and Digital Culture Program are just a few of the partners organizing the tech expo, which will feature more than 50 exhibitors.
