Construction crews will begin work on a pair of new Vancouver fire stations next week.

Fire Station 1, currently located at 900 W Evergreen Blvd., is being relocated to the corner of Main Street and Fourth Plain Blvd. Fire Station 2, currently located at 400 W 37th St., is moving to 2106 Norris Road.

The city of Vancouver will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for both stations on Monday, August 15 at the future site of Fire Station 2 (2106 Norris Road) at 1 p.m.

Fire Chief Joe Molina and Mayor Pro Tem Anne McEnerny-Ogle will speak at the groundbreaking.

“The city is relocating Fire Stations 1 and 2 in order to improve service and response times to the highest call volume area along the Fourth Plain corridor,” said Molina in a press release. “These new facilities will help keep our city a safe, vibrant and welcoming place to live.”

The city finalized its plans to rebuild and move both fire stations after studying a variety of different options based on a 2014 Long Range Facility Plan. The new locations are expected to maximize the efficiency of coverage from all four stations in the southwest part of the city.

Architectural firm Mackenzie led the design of the new stations with support from Interface Engineering. Construction will be completed by Corp. Inc. Construction.

The new stations are expected to be operational by the fall of 2017. Until that time, the existing fire stations will remain open.
