Tourism dollars to increase with return of championships

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recently announced that the 2017 and 2019 Men’s & Women’s Cross Country National Championships will take place at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. The event was last held in Vancouver in 2012.

The Cascade Collegiate Conference will serve as the official host of the event.

“We are thrilled to bring the NAIA men’s and women’s cross country championships back to the west and to the Historic Fort Vancouver in Vancouver, Washington,” said Robert Cashell, Cascade Collegiate Conference Commissioner. “Not only does it provide a very unique experience for all the participants, the Pacific Northwest is really a runners mecca that has an allure and reputation as one of the best areas in the country for races.”

According to Visit Vancouver USA, the return of the NAIA championships to Vancouver represents a huge boon to the local economy. The event constitutes more than 1,300 room nights each year across multiple hotel properties.
