PeaceHealth opens new clinic

PeaceHealth has opened a new clinic on the campus of PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver to evaluate and treat patients for transient ischemic attack (TIA) – a temporary blockage of blood flow in the brain that can cause stroke-like symptoms.

The goal of the TIA Clinic is to evaluate TIA patients within 72 hours of visiting the emergency room at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.

“This is an exciting new step in our ongoing efforts to offer the highest level of stroke care to our community,” said Sarice Bassin, M.D., medical director of the stroke program at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. “Data from the U.S. and Europe shows that timely outpatient evaluation of appropriate TIA patients decreases stroke risk while avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions. This is better for both the patient and the health care system.”

The TIA Clinic is now seeing patients, and is located in the offices of the PeaceHealth Medical Group-Neurology Clinic in the Medical Center Physicians’ Building at 505 NE 87th Ave., Suite 460, in Vancouver.
