Papa Murphy’s releases quarterly earnings, unveils online nutrition tool

Papa Murphy’s Holdings Inc. reported this week its financial results for its fourth quarter and full fiscal year ended December 29, 2014.

The Vancouver-headquartered company reported a fourth quarter net income of $2.8 million, compared to a net loss of $2.9 million in the fourth quarter of 2013. Additionally, during the fourth quarter of 2014, the company opened 38 stores system-wide.

“The fourth quarter marked another quarter of strong operating results for Papa Murphy’s,” stated Ken Calwell, President and CEO of Papa Murphy’s Holdings Inc. “Our system-wide comparable store sales growth of 8.4 percent, which included a 10.5 percent increase at our company stores, represented our 16th consecutive quarter of growth and was driven by a healthy balance of transaction growth, price and favorable product mix shift.”

For the full fiscal year of 2014, net income was $1.2 million, compared to a reported net loss of $2.6 million in 2013. The company opened 95 stores during that time.

“We remain confident in our long-term growth opportunity and continue to invest in our company store division through strategic franchise acquisitions to spur growth in our frontier markets,” said Calwell. “Through this investment, combined with future company-owned and ongoing franchise store development, we believe we can continue to drive increased awareness of the Papa Murphy’s brand and, in turn, further improvements in sales and profitability.”

Thanks to a new partnership with Nutritionix, a provider of food data and nutrition information on restaurants, Papa Murphy’s also announced the launch a mobile-friendly and interactive online tool that provides complete nutrition and allergen information on all of its signature menu items.

“As consumers focus more on the nutritional value of their food, we are pleased to meet their demands by introducing the interactive Nutritionix portal that helps them to make more informed decisions to fit their lifestyles,” said Dan Harmon, senior vice president of operations at Papa Murphy’s.

The online tool is available at www.papamurphys.com/nutrition and allows guests to quickly track exactly what is included in their pizza creation or menu item.
