Michael Murphy accepts job as PeaceHealth’s chief medical officer

Michael Murphy, MD, JD, has accepted the position of PeaceHealth chief medical officer, a newly created position at the system level, bringing a wealth of experience and passion about the future of health care.

Murphy is a board-certified Ob/Gyn and comes from Sharp Grossmont Hospital in San Diego, where he served as their first chief medical officer. At Sharp, Murphy was instrumental in improving physician communication and patient satisfaction, as well as implementing a Lean Six Sigma project to decrease denials. He has also served as a Baldrige Quality Award National Examiner as well as a Joint Commission Surveyor. No stranger to the Northwest, Murphy has worked previously for Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, Ore., and been in private practice in Salem, Ore.

Murphy received his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University College of Medicine in Philadelphia and his law degree from Willamette University College of Law.
