Growth Plan: County Council adopts Alt. 4

Following several hours of deliberation and testimony, the Board of Clark County Councilors voted 2-1 on Tuesday to adopt new planning assumptions and a preferred alternative (Alt. 4) to the county’s Comprehensive Growth Management Plan.

Councilors Tom Milke and David Madore voted in favor of the changes while Councilor Jeanne Stewart cast a dissenting vote. The land use plan was not recommended by the Planning Commission.

Alternative 4, introduced in March by Madore and later revised, considers changes to land use plans in rural, agricultural and forest areas. These changes include reducing the minimum allowed parcel size.

The new planning assumptions consider fewer parcels as “likely to develop” than under previous policies. A slightly higher annual population growth rate is also considered.

Councilors will discuss the preferred alternative and a final supplemental impact statement during a board meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
