C-TRAN is holding a free fare day this month as part of national “Dump the Pump Day.”
On Thursday, June 16, C-TRAN will provide free service across its entire system. The free fares will apply to all C-TRAN routes and services, including local, limited and express routes, C-VAN and the Connector.
Dump the Pump Day, now in its 11th year nationally, encourages people to ride public transportation to save money. According to the American Public Transportation Association, choosing transit over a daily commute by car can save a person more than $9,000 per year. Additionally, transit provides an environmentally-friendly mode of travel and improves traffic congestion.
Throughout Dump the Pump Day, C-TRAN riders will receive stickers to show their participation. Riders are also encouraged to post photos on social media using the hashtag #dumpthepumpCTRAN.
The C-TRAN Board of Directors approved the free service day during its May meeting.
