Wim Geurden
WSUV announces tech director
Wim Geurden has been named director of information technology at Washington State University Vancouver. In the new position, Geurden will focus on integrating new technology into the university’s existing systems, which were previously managed by
the university’s department of Library and Information Services.
Geurden stepped into the position April 15 after working as chief of IT architecture for retail financial services at JPMorgan Chase in Columbus, Ohio.
He has worked as a senior executive in Accenture’s financial services practice and as a partner with the company’s Strategic Information Technology Effectiveness group. Accenture is a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company.
Geurden also worked at Microsoft Corp. as a senior technology strategist for banking.

Jim Jacks
Mackay and Sposito hires former governor’s aide
Jim Jacks has joined the business development team at Mackay and Sposito, a Vancouver-based civil engineering, land use and construction management firm.
Jacks previously was Gov. Chris Gregoire’s Southwest Washington Public Liaison Officer. He also worked for the city of Vancouver as a citizen advocate for nearly five years, where he was involved with outreach to businesses, neighborhood associations and other local jurisdictions. Jacks is a Democratic candidate for the 49th Legislative District. He is active in the Vancouver Rotary Club and is on the board of Leadership Clark County.
Jacks holds a Master of Arts degree in peace studies from United Kingdom-based University of Bradford and a Bachelor of Science degree in history from Oregon State University.

Nies to lead national council
Jerry Nies has been elected president of the National Agent Advisory Council for Seattle-based Safeco Insurance Co. of America. The advisory council’s aim is to help Safeco and its agents improve communication, resolve concerns and create business opportunities.
Nies is principal at Camas-based Nies Insurance, which he founded in 1972 in Battle Ground. The company has five offices in Vancouver, Battle Ground and Camas. Nies is a charter property casualty underwriter and represents insurance agents on a committee of the Washington State Insurance Commissioner. He also is on the administrative board for Clark County Emergency Medical Services District No. 2. and the board of directors for Northwest Heart of Gold Inc., a Portland-based nonprofit that raises funds for cancer research at Oregon Health Sciences University.

Van Hardison
SWMC names clinical informatics director
Van Hardison is the new director of clinical informatics at Vancouver-based Southwest Washington Medical Center. In the position, he will coordinate the organization’s clinical information systems with a focus on workflow optimization.
Hardison worked previously at Kansas City, Mo.-based Cerner Corp., where he directed clinical and financial design and implementations for six years. He previously held application and clinical informatics director positions at two health systems in the southeastern United States.
Hardison holds a doctorate and master’s degree in health care administration, and is a registered nurse with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Hardison also is certified in health care information and management systems.

Former Target leader joins health system board
Ronald A. Prill has joined the board of directors of Vancouver-based Southwest Washington Health System, the parent company of Southwest Washington Medical Center. The health system includes SWMC, health plans, physician practices and integrated services throughout Clark County.
Prill is the retired president of Minneapolis-based Target Financial Services. He had a 33-year career at Target Corp., and was chairman and chief executive officer of Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Target National Bank, the company’s credit card bank subsidiary. Prill served on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors Consumer Advisory Council in Washington, D.C., and chaired its consumer credit committee. Locally he is on the boards of Bank of Clark County and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington.

Erica Rainford
Port of Woodland names executive director
Erica Rainford is the new executive director of the Port of Woodland.
Rainford was a Woodland City Councilor from the spring of 2005 until December 2007. She’s a native of Woodland, which she said gives her a natural interest in bringing smart economic development to the city.
One of Rainford’s largest projects is Woodland’s share of the federal dredging of the Columbia River. The project will make room for larger vessels on the Columbia from the Vancouver-Portland area to Astoria, Ore.
“I’m excited to take the port to a new level and increase our industrial base,” she said.
Rainford co-owned Blackwater Café in Woodland from 2002 until 2004, when the business sold. She also was a real estate broker at Woodland Real Estate.

Eliza Lane has joined the Vancouver National Historic Reserve Trust as tourism manager. She worked previously in communications, project management, marketing, events and strategic planning for Vancouver and Portland organizations including Hunt Communications, the Western U.S. Agricultural Trade Association, Katlin Smith Communications and the Portland Oregon Visitors Association. In Lawrence, Kan., Lane worked in marketing for the city of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department, the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and the Lawrence Convention and Visitors Bureau. Lane has Bachelor of Arts degree from Grinnell College in Iowa and studied integrated marketing communications at the University of Kansas.

BILL WARD
Port swears in new board member
Bill Ward was sworn in to the board of commissioners for the Port of Camas-Washougal Jan. 2, and will serve as its secretary. Ward fills the position previously held by Rich Gunderson.
For 28 years, Ward has run an engineering management consulting firm in Camas. He has worked with several jurisdictions, including the ports of Portland and Ridgefield, to improve operations, plan future facilities and increase employment. Ward is a national director of the American Society for Engineering Management, and has been president of the Camas-Washougal Rotary Club. He has a degree in engineering from Oregon State University and a Master in Business Administration from the University of Portland. He and his family have lived in Camas for more than 30 years.

Tom Bashwiner has joined the Vancouver National Historic Reserve Trust as director of gift planning. He was in a similar position Since January 2004 at Daybreak Youth Services in Vancouver and Spokane. He was also executive director of the St. John Medical Center Foundation in Longview and directed hospital foundation programs in Lake Charles, La.; Galveston, Texas; and Long Beach, Calif. Bashwiner is a graduate of Creighton University in Omaha; a fellow of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy; a member of Portland’s Northwest Planning Giving Roundtable and a member of the Southwest Washington Estate Planning Council.
