TAK KENDRICK

The Fort Vancouver Regional Library District has hired Tak Kendrick as its new communications and marketing director.

In his new library role, Kendrick will be responsible for overseeing and providing strategic guidance for communications and marketing throughout the entire library district, including media relations, advertising, outreach support, publications and graphic design. The position manages a department of five at the library headquarters in Vancouver.

Prior to joining FVRL, Kendrick spent seven years as a communications officer for The Lemelson Foundation in Portland. Before that, he was the content and community manager for AboutUs.org. He has a background in community journalism, as a reporter and graphic designer for various local and community newspapers in the Pacific Northwest.

Kendrick earned a master’s degree in creative writing from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. He also has a bachelor’s degree from The Evergreen State College in Olympia.

Michelle BartMICHELLE BART

Michelle Bart, president and co-founder of the Vancouver-based National Women’s Coalition Against Violence & Exploitation (NWCAVE), was recently honored with the inaugural Pebble Rebel Award by the International Women’s Festival Pacific Northwest committee.

The award honors a Pacific Northwest woman who shows compassion or creativity; who takes action in her sphere of influence to motivate and inspire; who stimulates good in her community; and is a courageous advocate for creating circumstances in which people can thrive through any obstacle.

Bart was honored for her ongoing media efforts for missing children, her advocacy for ending violence and exploitation, and her vision of creating an organization making a difference in Washington and beyond.

MIKE NERLAND

Mike Nerland, current superintendent of the Camas School District, has been selected as Educational Service District 112’s next Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning effective July 1, 2016.

Nerland brings significant leadership experience to the job having been a teacher, principal and superintendent. He recently announced that he will leave his post as Camas’ superintendent in June.

“I very much look forward to working with Superintendent Tim Merlino, the leadership team, and the dedicated staff working throughout Southwest Washington to advance ESD 112’s mission of equalizing educational opportunities for learning communities through innovative partnerships, responsive leadership and exceptional programs,” Nerland said.
