The House recently passed a bill that would create a specific license for single-screen theaters to sell beer and wine for consumption on their premises.
House Bill 2558, which passed with 87 votes in support and 10 votes in opposition, was created after the owners of downtown Vancouver’s Kiggins Theatre suggested the idea of serving alcohol during certain performances to State Representative Jim Moeller.
The Kiggins would like to serve beer and wine, but current law and regulations say the single-screen theater would have to exclude minors from the premises altogether.
The bill now moves to the Senate.
