Accounting mistakes you can’t afford

Accounting mistakes you can’t afford

With the chaos of tax season now a fading memory, some small business owners may hope to avoid worrying about their balance sheets until sometime next year. But avoidance won’t make next year’s taxes to go more smoothly – let alone boost a business’ bottom line.

When small business owners make these four common mistakes, they should stop hiding from the tax professionals and head in for a financi...

Norris, Beggs & Simpson celebrates 20 years in Clark County

Company to post 40 percent revenue increase for 2005

NAI/Norris, Beggs & Simpson’s Vancouver office celebrated its 20th anniversary this month. The nearly 75-year-old commercial real estate firm opened its Vancouver office in 1985 with two partners and three employees. Today, there are 15 employees in the Vancouver office.

"We saw an opportunity in Clark County that nobody else was taking advantage of," said Executive Vice President Roger Qualman. "I think it shows we are entrepreneurial, quick on our feet, market savvy and able to read markets well, and that is what our business is all about."

The company is on track to post a 40 percent increase in revenue this year.

"We think it will continue for another year, but what made the difference this year is that it was an unusual year in that we had high demand for space, both for lease and for sale, and there is a lot of product available still," said Qualman. "Eventually we will run out of available product and we will get back into a development cycle."

Norris, Beggs & Simpson is anticipating the completion of Vancouvercenter, the $100 million mixed-use downtown project.

"We are on the downhill side of leasing the commercial space in the north office tower and are anticipating that there will be start of construction on the south tower in the very near future," said Qualman.

The firm is working to expand its 6-million-square-foot property management portfolio and continue to grow its real estate financing business.
